Week of September 19-22 Thanks to everyone who came out for Meet the Teacher. It was great to see parents in person after all this time and having a chance to reconnect.  This week, we spent time working on our reading timelines. Students have generated a list of books that they have strong memories with and wrote about their experiences. They will be putting these memories into small books with a matching book cover. We are hoping to be finished at the end of next week.  In Science, we talked about photosynthesis and created a visual "formula" to remember the process. In Social, we have been working on our mapping skills, completing maps of Canada. Grade 6 math had students working on rounding and adding large numbers. Students were challenged with the story of "One Grain of Rice" where students had to figure out how many grains of rice the powerful Raja had to give one of his citizens. Students had to double the amount each day for a month, arriving at a total of

We survived our first full week! It was a great week with wonderful weather which made going outside and enjoying the fresh air a real treat.  We have spent time this week ensuring students know both their emails and passwords and are able to connect with our Google Classroom. Each student was tasked with sending an email about themselves as a learner to myself to practice sending a proper and professional email. Students are in charge of keeping track of their own email and password this year so they have access to Google Classroom and their emails both at school and at home.  In Science, we began looking at the levels of the forest. Students were challenged with finding examples of organisms that would be in each level of the forest and create a picture in Google Draw. Ask your child if they are finished and have them show you their first time using Google Draw. If it is not complete, it is homework . We defined what producers, consumers, decomposers are, and create a flip book to sh
Week of Sept 6-9th We had a great week even though it was only 4 days of learning! We took the opportunity to be outside journaling, looking at natural objects. Students were introduced to the journaling strategy "Zoom in/Zoom out" where they looked at an object as a whole then looked closer at a specific part. In our art journals, we also practiced upside down drawing which was a good challenge, even for the teacher! In science, we began our unit on Trees and Forests. We looked at why the forest is important and different ways we use the forest. We investigated living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) components of the forest in a picture scavenger hunt.  We began the novel "Ban this Book". It has great connections to decision making which will be part of social studies this year as well as advocacy. Students had the opportunity to visit the library and pick out books. Books are allowed to be brought home (I'm really encouraging them to read nightly) and return
