Week of September 19-22

Thanks to everyone who came out for Meet the Teacher. It was great to see parents in person after all this time and having a chance to reconnect.

This week, we spent time working on our reading timelines. Students have generated a list of books that they have strong memories with and wrote about their experiences. They will be putting these memories into small books with a matching book cover. We are hoping to be finished at the end of next week.

In Science, we talked about photosynthesis and created a visual "formula" to remember the process.

In Social, we have been working on our mapping skills, completing maps of Canada.

Grade 6 math had students working on rounding and adding large numbers. Students were challenged with the story of "One Grain of Rice" where students had to figure out how many grains of rice the powerful Raja had to give one of his citizens. Students had to double the amount each day for a month, arriving at a total of over 1 billion grains of rice.

Grade 5's explored different ways to regroup numbers and worked on generating a shopping list of how they would spend 1 million dollars.

Next week, we are going to go for a walk Thursday morning from 10:15-11:30 am as part of our work with Orange Shirt Day. Please have your child prepared for the weather.

Have a fantastic weekend.
