January 30-February 2, 2023

What a cold week! I was hoping to get us outside for Winter walk day but that wind had a bite!

This week we:

-Learned about decision making in the Iroquois Confederacy and referred back to the start of the year on how decisions are made in Canada. We compared the advantages and disadvantages of each.

-Explored the roles of men, women and children in Iroquois society.

-Practiced our transformations and applied our understanding in creating a visual to reflect this on the cartesian plane (will complete next week).

-Began learning about newspapers and news articles. We used our close reading strategies to extract the W5's and how to summarize.

-Used our planner for our upcoming article of the day presentations to practice the expectations. In the Google Classroom is the assignment and dates for presentation. Please have your child share this with you so they don't forget their presentation date.

-Added to our scientific vocabulary comets, meteors and asteroids. We then "launched" asteroids to see the magnitude of destruction and will summarize our findings.

-In music, we found all our notes for our handbell music and have started rehearsing.

-Next week, to continue with our work from Open Minds, Bubba B (Hip hop artist, motivational speaker, and successful Dragons Den contestant) will be coming to work with the Field and Roa communities.

-We will also be exploring space technologies and conducting research to create an infographic, continuing with newspaper articles (if you have newspapers at home, I'd love to have them!) and finishing transformations with a test on Wednesday.

A few other things...

We are continuing with gymnastics. Please ensure you are prepared to participate.

Here is the Learn Alberta student resource that may be useful to use at home. There are interactive activities and printable resources as well https://curriculum.learnalberta.ca/student-learning-hub/en/home.

Some students have decided to participate in our school Newsletter. Submissions for the next edition are Thursday, February 9th.

Have a great weekend.
